Outlook 2007 – Personal Folder items and follow-up tasks

I’m getting the hang of Outlook 2007 and I’m trying to really use the “To-Do Bar” more effectively.  I’m using it to track all my open items that need to get done.  I do most of my effort tracking through email.  When something comes to my inbox, if I need to make it a task I mark the flag for follow-up.

I ran into a problem recently with regard to personal folders.  I use my rules to dump messages into personal folders instead of storing them on the Exchange server.  When I try to track these messages as new tasks they wouldn’t show up in the To-Do Bar.

Problem solved…

Right click on your Personal Folder and select “Properties for ‘Personal Folder’”…
Make certain the box is checked for “Display reminders and tasks from this folder in the To-Do Bar”.  Hit “OK”.
Restart Outlook.

Now if you select any message for follow-up, it should appear in your To-Do Bar as a new task.

Digg v4 – block new digg ads

I’m not crazy about the digg revamp. But it is what it is and I’ll deal with the change. EXCEPT when it comes to advertisements in the digg posts. The list now contains ads (very clever guys).

I’m an adblock user, so I’ve added the following to my adblock filter:

http://dads.new.digg.com/*

http://dads.diggstatic.com/*

That seems to keep the digg list ads blocked for now.

Rooted!

I’ve successfully rooted my Motorola Droid!

The only hiccup I had was getting the RSD Lite app to get the firmware file loaded. Seems as though there was a path issue. I copied it to C:\ and it took off without any issues.

Follow these Lifehacker instructions and you shouldn’t have any problems.

Phoenix Public Transit and Web 2.0

In a recent report by Marketplace, it was reported that the city of Boston’s MBTA recently released a public, web-based service interface to allow anyone to find out transit information and the location of city buses.  I listened to that report and thought, “If I could do that in Phoenix, I’d probably ride the bus more often.”  And I bet I’m not the only person who has had the same thought.

So I expressed my thoughts to Phoenix Valley Metro in the hopes that they might listen.
