Europe: The Adventure

So we’re off to Europe for a much needed vacation. VERY MUCH NEEDED! We’ll be posting periodically from the road. Whenever we can find time and an internet cafe, we’ll likely take a few minutes to write a few emails and post some pictures here.

A brief summary of our itinerary:
Sat-Wed: Rome
Wed-Fri: Florence

Europe 3 weeks away.

Our trip to Europe begins in three weeks!

Many of the details have been worked out. We leave the 5th of September for Rome (via London) on British Airways. We’ll spend 4 days in Rome and head for Florence on the 10th. Florence gets our attention for 2 days and then its off to Venice for an over-night. The following day we’ll take a train to Bologna to catch a sleeper train to Paris. From Sunday, the 14th, through Wednesday we’ll spend our time touring Versailles, the Louvre, and the Eiffel Tower. We leave Paris on the 17th for London. A few days in London to take in the sites and then it’s back to AZ on the 20th.

To prepare for the trip we’ve not only been saving our Benjamins, but we’ve also been dieting and working out. I’ve dropped 20 lbs from my waist and have increased my stamina and strength. I recall the last trip to Europe being all stairs. It sucked. At this point I feel I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been in. I’m benching more, running farther, and feeling great. Heck, I weigh less than I did when I got married. Giddy up!

Symfony, Joomla, com_wrapper, security

First off, I apologize to those who have tried to post comments. I did not realize I had broken my commenting section when I recently uploaded a threaded comment plugin. As far as I can tell, it is fixed.

I’ve received a few emails and requests for more information about linking Symfony to Joomla (Original Post). The questions were pretty varied, but mostly centered around gaining some additional clarity and securing my approach using symmetric encryption.

Europe – 11 weeks away

Christine and I have planned a trip to Europe for the beginning of September.  Two weeks of traveling and adventure.

Downside is, I’m terribly out of shape.  Europe is going to be a lot of walking… “urban hiking”, if you will.  Those that know me realize I have a mostly sedentary life style.  I write code most of the day and spend my evenings veg-ing in front of the TV.

So with the trip looming over my head I’ve decided to impart on a sort of lifestyle change.  I’m now off to my local gym every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 5:30am for an hour work out with a co-worker.

We’ll see how this pans out.

Symfony, Joomla, and user authorization

I’ve been having this migraine of a headache lately. Its the result of trying to get a symfony-based web service that requires authentication to hook up with a Joomla web site. I’ve tried using COil’s suggestions, but it still didn’t quite work.

UPDATE 6/10/08:  I think I’ve nailed a solution down.
